Google Scholar is a search engine. People use it for academic search at a large scale. Google Scholar is free of cost, and it shows the best results that help in dissertation writing. In dissertation writing, proper citation is the most basic demand.

Conducting Research for Dissertation through Google Scholar

Google scholar shows all relevant information that helps in the citation process. You can directly cite any research paper. You can also pick up relevant information. This includes the author and publisher name, year of publication, and university name etc., for dissertation writing. Usage of Google or Wikipedia is very unprofessional. This is because you’ll always end up with lots of fake, and imprecise information through this sources.

At the same time, Google scholar keeps you safe from unauthentic information. Here you come up with good piece of authentic information. It does not show you a single result for your search. Instead, it shows you a bundle of relevant research papers. On another platform, many times you don’t find the full version of research paper. But in the case of Google scholar, you would not have to face this issue. This platform saves your time for search as well.

Sometimes Google Scholar does not show all content free of cost. But when you’re working on dissertation writing, you would not find this problem. This is because almost all institutes have subscriptions to Google scholar. This aspect also keeps the students safe from any cost associated issues. The following aspects will help you in better using Google Scholar for dissertation writing tasks;

Usage of Key Words:

For ensuring better results in terms of search, you have to follow some tips. In dissertation writing, you have to search for the most relevant material. You can do this with smartness. Just like Google, you cannot paste the whole statement in the search bar. If you do so, you will not get the exact result. You will only end up with a bundle of irrelevant results. For better results, the very first tip is using keywords in your search. That keyword must represent the core idea of your topic.

You may have one or more keywords for a single dissertation topic. But try to avoid using more than three keywords. The proper use of keywords saves your searching time. Also, you would not have to put extra effort into the dissertation search. Spending time on research is not a bad thing to do. But this should be in a specific range of time. If you spend months searching for data, when will you start writing a dissertation. So you have to take care of all these aspects.

Let’s understand the accurate use of keywords with the help of examples. Suppose your dissertation’s topic is ‘Urban Mobility Pattern Pre, During, and Post Pandemic’. Here if you put the whole statement on Google scholar, you would not find the exact result. But if you make use of keywords, it will definitely help you. The accurate keywords for this topic will be ‘urban mobility patter’, ‘pandemic’, and ‘phases of pandemic’. Search relevant research papers with the help of keywords.

In another example, suppose your dissertation topic is ‘Improving Students’ Academic Writing Skill Through Task-Based Approach’. Here your keyword will be that of ‘task-based approach’. In both cases, you will come up with a bundle of research papers. Then you have to select the most relevant one.

Use of Side Bar:

If you’re asked to come up with recent research papers for dissertation writing, you have to go for that. For this, you can set the range of years. On left side of the page, you can see the custom range. There you can set a range of years as per your requirement. You can search for the latest research paper, or the oldest one too. In dissertation writing, your topic and problem statement helps a lot in sorting out this issue. especially when it comes to the effective study of the content available at Google.

Use of Boolean Operator:

Boolean operator is another best strategy for ensuring better search results. In dissertation writing, you cannot compromise by presenting vague research. The aspect of literature review has a major part in dissertation writing. And you use Google scholar to ensure data for the literature review. Irrespective of the tips mentioned above, you may still have problems in search. Then the best solution is to use a Boolean operator. This is because it’ll surely work well.
