The Supreme Court of India on Monday agreed to head a special plea by medical students seeking a special “Stray Round” to fill vacant seats in the NEET 2021 counselling. The plea was focussed on filling the vacant seats in the AIQ (All India Quota) in NEET 2021. While the petition was focused on NEET PG seats, it is unclear if the same will apply for NEET UG / MBBS seats.
While the courts are on vacation, a special bench consisting of Justice Aniruddha Bose & MR Shah requested the lawyers appearing on behalf of the students to file a copy of the petition to the MCC (Medical Counselling Committee), NBE (National Board of Examination) & the centre. The matter will be heard on June 8. The court also instructed that the notice be served to Ms. Aishwarya Bhati (Additional Solicitor General) who may get instructions on the matter
The petition was filed by Astha Goel, seeking a special stray round of counselling to fill the vacant seats left in the NEET 2021 counselling. The petitioner had appeared for NEET 2021 under the AIQ rounds followed by the “Mop-Up” rounds and was unable to secure a seat. Meanwhile the NEET PG 2022 results have been declared and the dates for counselling are awaited
