The National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET UG 2022) is perhaps now one of the largest and most competitive exams in the world with over 18 Lak (~1.8 million) applicants this year. The exam has undergone several changes such as time duration & number of centres.
Changes Made to The Exam Duration
· This year’s exam will be 20 minutes longer and will have a total duration of 3 Hours 20 Minutes (as compared to 3 hours previously)
·Experts claim that the extra 20 minutes will be a game changer for the exam and will be a relaxation for students since the core purpose of the exam is to test accuracy
Rise In Number of Applicants
· With over 18.72 lakh applicants, this year’s NEET exam has record competition. This year’s exam has seen a significant jump in application (~2.5 lakh)
·The increase in registrations can be attributed to several reasons such as removal of upper age limit, increased repeaters, pandemic led disruptions in previous year aspirants, global tensions in Ukraine etc.
New Rank Calculation Formula
· This year’s rank calculation (in cases where there is a tied score) will be based on higher percentile scores in biology, followed by chemistry and finally a consideration of lower proportion of incorrect answers will be used
Enhanced Security in Registration Process
· Additional security to be added in the registration process through two-step verification and live image checking
This years NEET UG 2022 is scheduled to be held on July 17th. With many students voicing their concerns related to clash with other important exams (CUET, JEE Mains), delayed counselling process for NEET 2021as well as less gap between CBSE Class 12th Boards and the NEET UG 2022 exam, NTA (National Testing Authority) is being questioned about the increased pressure on students and the remedial actions which can be taken to reduce the burden on aspirants.
