In the center of New York City’s west village sits Teich Toys. I’ve been drawn to the store for quite some time thanks to its stunning design. And the amazing range of Best Toys and Gifts for Kids. I contacted Allison, the owner of Teich Toys when I decided to include toy store visits on my blog. Allison was gracious enough to share some background information.
Where Did you Get the Idea?
I used to own a tiny gift shop on 8th Avenue that sold gifts and accessories (for adults) as well as a small section of toys and presents for children. The comments were always positive, and that location quickly gained a lot of popularity. I concurred with my customers that a toy store was necessary because I’m a mom who also lives in the area. The moment the ideal retail property became available with plenty of window frontage, on a good section of Hudson Street, and across from Bleecker Street Playground sealed the deal.
The Layout of your Store is Lovely. What did you Think About it?
The store’s layout and shape served as our inspiration. A life-size wooden toy train that would circle the store’s interior was my mother’s brilliant idea. She imagined the train engine sticking out into the shop, where children might play and sit while their parents bought. We constructed train car frames around the existing shelves from the previous tenants to make it appear as though the shelves were within the train cars. We worked with Hunt Architects, a gifted up-and-coming architecture firm, that elevated our idea. The train, the railway station (our book and reading corner), the cash wrap, and the mobile goods tables that fill the store were all constructed by them in collaboration with two teams of regional artisans. We desired a spacious, uncrowded feeling.
You Have a Fantastic Assortment of the Top Toys for Kids.
So we get our toys from all places. Some are self-employed designers and artisans that I come across online and on social media, through word of mouth, or who contact us. Our consumers frequently recommend products that they truly enjoy. We sell a variety of products handcrafted by local moms, including bracelets, cards, and hair accessories. Therefore throughout the year, I go to a few significant trade exhibitions where I stock up on some of the more well-known brands. I make an effort to stick with more unique and uncommon companies. Quality is a priority for me as well. So i seek to choose toys that will be cherished and last for a very long time. I also concentrate on items like DIY kits, science experiments, puzzles, board games, and art supplies that will keep kids active and away from screens.
Participate At Any Events?
Every Tuesday at 11:30, we have story time. Therefore throughout the year, we do organize additional events and initiatives. We’re holding an Earth Day recycled toy drive for Second Chance Toys this coming week. The organization will deliver the old toys that people no longer want their children to play with to needy children. Therefore for Pride and Halloween, we always do something enjoyable (big holidays here in the West Village:).
I usually have a great time when I visit Teich Toys since I frequently find fresh and intriguing things. Here are a couple of Gadgets and Accessories I noticed on my most recent trip (that I think you will love as well). The cone’s shape makes it simple for infants to grab and hold, while the many surfaces encourage the discovery of various textures. Sweet Tooth would be a wonderful Easter basket filler or baby shower present. These Paper Dolls are musicians and artists, and they each have a Tri-fold studio where they may practice and perform.
