Tata Cars in India
Tata Motors, formerly known as Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company (TELCO), made a foray into the passenger vehicle market in India in 1988. They first launched the Tatamobile in 1988, followed by the launch of the Tata Sierra in 1991. Tata Motors became the first Indian carmaker to produce a competitive indigenous passenger vehicle. Furthermore, the Indian carmaker launched its first sedan, the Tata Indica, in 1998 and later launched the world’s most affordable car in 2008, the Tata Nano. Moreover, they also acquired the JLR (Jaguar Land Rover) group from Ford in 2008. However, till 2018, their performance didn’t go well.
