Emotional freedom therapy, often called EFT tapping, treats physical pains and emotional distress. According to its creator, Gary Craig tapping on different body parts reduces the stress and balances the energy of the body. It’s based on the idea that the root cause of all negative emotions resides in the body’s energy system and can be resolved by bringing that energy into balance. Through EFT you can heal your inner child
Philosophy of EFT Tapping
EFT works on your meridian points, also called Energy points. Based on the Chinese concept of medicine, meridian points are those areas of the body through which energy flows. These energy pathways help keep a balance of energy, which is necessary to maintain your body’s fitness, overall health, and mental well-being. EFT use fingertips to tap on the body and apply pressure on meridian points.

It can also help you to achieve mindfulness as it makes you aware of your physiological process and improves breathing. It also distracts you from issues that are causing stress and other anxieties.
Like Acupuncture, EFT is also helpful for a variety of diseases. According to some scientists, It may work because it stimulates the central nervous system and causes the body to release chemicals which are beneficial for the body. EFT tapping works similarly to acupressure, and it stimulates acupoints with touch rather than needles.
5 Steps of EFT Tapping
You can use your own tapping sequences or work with a practitioner to see the benefits of EFT tapping. EFT tapping is a simple self-help technique to utilise because it may be done whenever you feel the need. If necessary, a practitioner can provide further in-depth assistance.
When people are concerned or upset or have a specific issue that they want to tackle, they frequently use EFT tapping. It may, however, be good for a person prior to an occasion that they expect would generate stress or anxiety.
To use EFT effectively, follow these five steps:
- Determine the problem
You must first identify the problem or concern you are dealing with. While tapping, this will be your focal point. It is claimed that concentrating on only one problem at a time will improve your results.
The person thinks about the problem they want to tackle at this step. They should concentrate on only one subject at a time.
- Test the intensity Level
After the identification of your core problem or issues, you will have to check its intensity on a scale rate from zero to ten. Ten is considered to be the most painful or difficult, and towards zero, the intensity decreases. Now this scale determines the emotional or physical pain from your perspective.
Finding the intensity level helps you monitor your progress after the EFT sequence. If before EFT, the intensity was ten, and after EFT, it is 5, then it means that you have achieved 50 percent improvement.
- Setup
Before actually starting the EFT tapping, you have to make certain phrases for yourself. They should focus on two things:
- Accepting the issue
- Accepting your own self
Here is a template phrase which you can alter according to your situation. “I know I have this (problem), but I completely accept myself.”
You can change this phrase but be careful that it must only address your issue, not of someone else. Like you can not say that as “My father is sick, but I completely accept myself” because, in this, you are addressing the issue of your mother. You have to only focus on that problem which is causing you stress. You can modify the above phrase as “Even I am sad because my father is sick, I completely accept myself.”
So before starting each sequence of tapping, you will remind the phrase to repeat while tapping the centre part of the outer hand.
- EFT tapping sequence
It involves tapping on the ends of nine pressure points, which are as follows.
- (TOH) tapping directly in the centre top of the head
- eyebrow(EB) beginning of the brow, above and side of the nose
- Sides of the eyes (SE) tapping on the bone at the outer side of the eye
- Under-eye (UN) One inch below the pupil on the bone under the eye
- Under the Nose (UN) between the upper lip and nose
- The Chin point (CH) is the space between the lower lip and the bottom of the chin
- Collarbone(CB) is the joining pointy where the collarbone, breastbone and 1st rib meets
- (UA) Under the arm
- (KC) Karate Chop
While tapping, makes use of your fingertips five times on each point with the continuous recitation of your phrase three times.
- Rate your intensity level
Now, after completing the EFT sequence, you will have to determine the intensity of pain or illness on a scale rating from 0 to 10. Now will notice that after repeating Emotional freedom therapy several times intensity score will decrease.
